"I knew you before I formed you in your mother's womb. Before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as my prohet to the nations." Jeremiah 1:4-5

Since the age of 4, I knew that I had been called to the continent of Africa. After countless mornings sitting in front of the television at such a young age, I felt a sense of connection to the brown babies on the screen that looked just like me, but lived lives yet so differently. My urge then, was “to make and deliver peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to them”.

In the first half of 2014, I had the privilege of going to Uganda for the first time to live and study abroad. The time I spent in Uganda transformed my life. While there, I had the distinct opportunity to work at a prison for detained youth, which obviously left a profound impact on me. It was through that experience that God confirmed my ultimate purpose to share my heart of compassion with children that are physically, emotionally and/or spiritually bound; those labeled by society as “orphaned”, “abandoned”, “delinquent”, “unworthy”, “impoverished”, “inadequate”, or who were told they would never amount to anything. In fact, just as God allowed that experience in Uganda to transform my life, I want to in turn transform the lives of the children of Uganda.

Now having recently graduated from Spelman College, I have been blessed with a tremendous opportunity to serve with Sozo Children and again be physically present with the children that I dreamed about long ago. It’s more than humbling to know that God, as big, sovereign, and almighty as He is, would WANT to use “little ole me”. To know that He would allow me to be His hands and feet in Uganda, that He would trust me to  love on others in the same way that He embraces me daily, blows my mind but excites me all the more.

In August, I'll be back in Uganda as a missionary. I will teach at the school some of the Sozo kids attend, as well as use my gift of dance to assist with other programs and projects within the ministry. In order to accomplish all of that and more, I kindly ask for your financial support of my journey. ANY gift of ANY amount is sincerely appreciated as my initial goal is to raise $25,000 the first year. This will cover all of my living and travel expenses with Sozo Children for one of my two years of serving with them. Although one-time donations are greatly appreciated, I would ask for monthly contributions to help me reach this annual goal and sustain my serving there.

With your generosity and prayers, we can be the light of the world together in Uganda. You are important to me, so I invite you to extend hope to the children and people of Uganda through me.

As they say in Uganda, "WEEBALE", which means 'thank you', and always remember, "Everyone smiles in the same language."

ABOUT Missionary

Sozo Missionaries fuel the drive behind the on-ground Uganda work. They are considered facilitators. Since we have Ugandan staff in place raising the children and caring for their immediate needs, the missionaries are needed to assist those workers and invest in the children. They work alongside local Ugandans, inside Sozo homes and in outside communities, to further the gospel and represent Sozo Children.
